Well, I've had a smoking issue on high boost/high RPM shifts lately, and it's progressed to burning oil at idle in the last 500 miles or so. I figured I would need to replace the turbos very soon. Two other local guys with pretty much the same setup as me are experiencing the same smoking issues as I am, and both had the problem resolved by replacing test pipes with the stock cats. In a last ditch effort to see if I could squeeze a few more miles out of the turbos (they still boosted strong), I threw the cats back on today. After installing the cats, I noticed a pretty decent exhaust leak on the passenger side downpipe, at the junction with the midpipes. I didn't have time to work on the car anymore, so I figured I'd just limp the few miles home with a mild exhaust leak. BTW, the car still smoked between shifts, so the test-pipe theory doesn't hold true in my case. So there I am driving home, and suddenly, both of my rear tires locked up completely. I nearly lost control of the vehicle, but I was able to pull into a turn lane. There was about a half a quart of oil on the ground and a steady oil trail from the car back to where the wheels locked up. I checked the dipstick and there was still about 3 quarts of oil (I'm estimating) in the pan. I'm guessing I threw a rod. I won't know until next week when I pull the motor, but this project became about 3x as expensive today. Anyone ever heard of this happening?
